In the News

Welcome to the Awesome SA website! We have made it bright and interactive so that the voice of South Africans, positively influencing the future can be heard everywhere.

Thank you to all our fellow Awesome South Africans for the most amazing experience of the 2010 World Cup.  And now it’s all over – the expectation of the world and the anticipation of each and every South African. South Africa made headlines once again and it wasn’t only about the soccer – it was also amazement; it was praise; it was congratulations and it was celebrations. This World Cup reinforced the saying: We’ve done it before we can do it again. We may take the rollercoaster route and leave things to the 11th hour but wow ...when we get there, we sure make a statement.

From one proud South African to another, thank you for making this all possible.

So read the articles we’ve collected over the years, have a look at what our book has to offer and post a guest comment before you leave....and don’t forget to pass on the magic.

Waka waka eh eh. Feel it. It is here. The time has come but not ended.  It is just the beginning.

South African Ubuntu and the 2010 World Cup

Like most people, South Africans tend to use the word Ubuntu more than practice it. But something miraculous happened when the 2010 World Cup drew closer. South Africans became Ubuntu people.

People who are into colour therapy may say that all the colour from the flags and jerseys created a new and positive vibration in South Africa. Others may say that the yellow jerseys and flags made us all the same – removed any race, age or gender barriers and allowed South Africans to truly unite.

In fact, the enormous power of this united South Africa will be talked about for many years by people from all over the world who came to South Africa to watch soccer, but left amazed at this country and its people. The visitors talk about the beauty of South Africa, about its stadiums but most of all about its people – about the warmth of the South African people – about Ubuntu.

“South Africans are drinking deeply from the cup of humanity that has been brought to their doorstep. I would never imagine that an American World Cup or Olympics would ever be this welcoming to the rest of the world. And that saddens me for the state of my home country, but it also makes me feel the pride of the South African people says Shari Cohen in the Huffington Post of 15 June 2010.
