In the News

Welcome to the Awesome SA website! We have made it bright and interactive so that the voice of South Africans, positively influencing the future can be heard everywhere.

Thank you to all our fellow Awesome South Africans for the most amazing experience of the 2010 World Cup.  And now it’s all over – the expectation of the world and the anticipation of each and every South African. South Africa made headlines once again and it wasn’t only about the soccer – it was also amazement; it was praise; it was congratulations and it was celebrations. This World Cup reinforced the saying: We’ve done it before we can do it again. We may take the rollercoaster route and leave things to the 11th hour but wow ...when we get there, we sure make a statement.

From one proud South African to another, thank you for making this all possible.

So read the articles we’ve collected over the years, have a look at what our book has to offer and post a guest comment before you leave....and don’t forget to pass on the magic.

Waka waka eh eh. Feel it. It is here. The time has come but not ended.  It is just the beginning.

We all agree that South Africa is an amazing country and certainly lives up to the slogan, Alive with possibility.

We found this really helpful article written in the run-up to the 2010 World Cup on South Africa The Good News, that puts all the infomration a visitor to South Africa would want to know in a nutshell, like "Who lives in South Africa?" and "What's the weather like?"

"There's more to Africa than lions. Johannesburg, a city of skyscrapers, sprawls wider than London or New York. The lights work, the water flows, there are multi-lane highways and - unfortunately - traffic jams. You can book into a Hilton or a Hyatt or a Holiday Inn and eat at cosmopolitan restaurants serving anything from sushi to burgers to crocodile steaks. Or you can lie back on a couch and choose from five analogue and over 50 digital TV channels."

Fly the Flag Friday the new post-2010 World Cup jacket that Football Friday is wearing to keep South Africans focused on the positive.

According to Brand South Africa, the originators of the Fly the Flag Friday campaign, they will be encouraging South Africans to wear the colours of their flag, to keep flying the flag on their vehicles and at their homes and offices, and to embrace the spirit created during Africa's first, full-colour World Cup.

It is important for South Africans to remember that feeling of unity that we all felt during the run-up to the start of the 2010 World Cup. It is important for all South Africans never to foget the feeling of pride when an unprecedented crowd of hundreds of thousands of people in yellow jerseys, waving flags and blowing vuvuzelas lined the streets in Sandton to see Bafana Bafana before the tournament to wish them luck.

A National Policy on School Libraries must be finalised which forces schools in South Africa to build libraries, and provides funding and a timetable in order for this to happen.

Minimum norms and standards for all schools now! Policy must ensure that all current and future schools meet minimum physical norms which must include amongst other things flush toilets, desks and libraries with books and librarians.
